You are a work of art!
We each are God’s masterpiece, His handiwork, workmanship or creative work.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
He has created each one of us the way He has for a purpose – to do the good works He has set for each of us. Yet many of us think we’re a jigsaw and not a masterpiece! Let me explain!
God has made you, you! And me, me! However, sometimes we’d rather be a different version of ourselves or even someone else. Perhaps there are parts of us we don’t want others to see and so we act like we are a jigsaw puzzle; we give people the pieces of us that we think they’ll like and not the pieces they may dislike. To be honest I even hid likeable pieces of my ‘jigsaw’ in order to avoid attention I was scared to receive.
Hiding pieces of our jigsaw may feel like we’re taking control, protecting ourselves from rejection, unwanted attention, or from losing an image we want to portray. However, hiding the jigsaw pieces means others don’t see the real us. People can only relate to the distorted view of us that we show them which leads to relationships that can’t satisfy, and further hurt and fear.
I encourage you to accept yourself as God’s unique handiwork! Find your identity in Jesus Christ – as an imperfect human being who has been forgiven through His death on the cross. As someone deeply loved by God. As someone He has gifted with a unique personality, a passion for those ‘good works’ He’s created you for, and potential to walk in them. Be the masterpiece He created you to be!
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
Father God, Thank You for creating me the way You want me to be. I’m sorry that sometimes I’ve not liked me and I’ve decided which parts of me to present to others. Please help me to trust that You have gifted me uniquely to be the person You want me to be and lead me into those good works you have prepared for me to do so that others see Your light and goodness and glorify You. Amen.
